Edmund Gann, boat owner, dies at 86

Edmund Gann and Arnold Fernandes Picture Courtesy: Arnold  FernandesEdmund Gann, who owned a fleet of tuna-fishing boats and campaigned top Thoroughbreds throughout the world, died after a bout with cancer on Sunday, according to a spokesperson at his San Diego-area office.

The Colombian navy rescued off the coast cities of Cartagena and Barranquilla (North) to 15 of the 18 people who formed the crew of a tuna boat that sank in the Venezuelan Caribbean Sea, officials said.

The members of the Navy continued to search for the missing, but the comrades who are already in mainland authorities indicated that there is little hope of life because it never got out of the tuna seiner. Read the rest of this entry »

Venezuelan Tuna seiner Calypso capsize off Colombian coast

Approaching Calypso03:39 AM TO 3:57 PM This Sunday was the last communication with the tuna boat Calypso, with Venezuelan flag, which sailed on Friday from Punto Fijo Carirubana sector in the state of Falcon.

The unit of the company Avencasa left for the Pacific Ocean at about 8:50 pm and his last contact was at 11 degrees, 05 minutes north latitude, 75 degrees, 39 minutes, 32 seconds West longitude. In Point Loma, Tuna’s Legacy Lives On

The news spread quickly across Point Loma last week. On Sunday, the Cape Elizabeth, a 225-foot tuna fishing boat captained by one of the neighborhood’s own, caught fire and sank in western Pacific waters north of American Samoa.

Julio Guidi and his 21 crewmembers were rescued by a passing boat. By Tuesday evening, Guidi was on his way home. Read the rest of this entry »

A difficult proposition to reject, so I wrote him and asked hime to send me the DVD, which very kindly did a few days ago.
