Boy I gotta give you a pat on your back for a job well done. I\'m glad I found your site. I used to fish on the M.V. Lone Wolf out of Am. Samoa for a while. Those were some of the best times I\'ve had in my life time. I\'m a Trawler fisherman out of Dutch Harbor Alaska now, but it\'s not the same a when I was seining..Job well done Bro

my father fished on the mv sea treasure and the mv polaris.they were at the time owned by ganns.this was in the late 60s thru the 70s.does anyone know what happened to these boats? i remember my mom taking me to point loma to watch the boat leave.i was also interested in finding out current info on how to get into fishing.can any one help me? thanks ,mike

Note of webmaster: Hi Mike, glad to hear about your father fishing on those great boats, as you know the American fleet now is located in American Samoa, a really far and isolated place, I do not know how you can get into the fishing, neither if the lifestyle or the income will appeal you.

There is some few american boats operating in th eEastern Pacific, Panama still a good starting point, where mostly of the boats are from Venezuela, or under differente flags.

Perhaps another visitor can help you better than me. Experience is a must, so is not a bad idea start working in the local purseiners like in San Pedro.

Regards

I can't imagine how much the price of fuel has affected crew shares.

Note of webmaster: In 1983 As a winchman I got $11 per Ton fishing in the west coast of Africa in 2002 my last year in Samoa they offer you maximum just $5 per ton, so you can do the math easily.

If you want to work in Samoa you have to pay for the air tickets, no vacation, no retirement plans, no healthcare, next they will hire you just for the food, this is the situation in the majority of the purseiners, perhaps with the exception of French and Spanish boats, their own coiuntry legislation do not allowed them for this kind of Third world employment practices, as americans and others do actually.
